Digital Ball 2008 - Revolutionary Results!

The 2008 TechBridge Digital Ball "Revolution", presented by Accenture, once again exceeded all attendance and sponsorship goals. The gala event held Saturday May 10, 2008 at the Georgia World Congress Center brought 1,200 technology, business and nonprofit leaders together for an evening of dinner, dancing and visually stunning performances. Ninety-four corporate sponsors gave more than $1.2 million in cash and in-kind donations to fund TechBridge's nonprofit technology programs and services. Guests were treated to a feast featuring an extreme painter, arial stunts, flame throwing and toasts to technology.

L to R: Becky Blalock, CIO Southern Company; Jean-Michel Arès, CIO The Coca-Cola Company; Kristin Kirkconnell, CIO Atlanta Gas Light, an AGL Resources Company; Jack McMillan, CEO TechBridge.

The 2008 Technology Innovation Award, given by Accenture, was awarded to MedShare International.  We also congratulate our two finalists, American Cancer Society and Southwest Christian Care, who also received a Judges Honorable Mention. Click to watch or read more about these three organizations.

TechBridge and TechLINKS were proud to present the 2008 CIO Community Builder Award to Dr. Guido Sacchi, CIO CompuCredit, for his outstanding contribution to our community.

Internships Needed!
We also heard an update on five students currently receiving the TechBridge Networking Skills Scholarship, sponsored by Cisco, and the IT executives who have generously served as mentors to these students: Brian Shield, CIO The Weather Channel; Helen Berg, CIO Merge Healthcare; Steve Winterbottom, VP IT Cisco; Dave Kardesh, VP IT Corporate Systems The Home Depot; and Robert Marburger, CIO Alston & Bird.

Now we need YOUR HELP! We are seeking 3-6 month internships for each of these students, to start after they finish their CCNA Certification coursework in August 2008. If your company is interested in hearing more, please contact Monique Wilson at mwilson@techbridge.org.

Reliable and Stable Systems for Seniors

Lutheran Towers is a faith-based, wellness-oriented not for profit community in Midtown Atlanta for low to moderate income seniors, promoting safe and secure housing in a caring and professional environment.

Lutheran Towers' performance was thwarted by an outdated server, limited network and poor connectivity. TechBridge's IT assessment provided the guidance needed to get Lutheran Towers back on track. And with TechBridge's outsourced IT, "Scheduled Services", coupled with software donations via Microsoft's Direct Donation Program, the Towers can now focus on the care of its residents.

"TechBridge is a nonprofit: its staff understands our challenges and speaks our language.  Since we are so dependent on our systems, we can't do our jobs if they go down.  We now have the peace of mind that TechBridge is taking care of our systems, which lets us focus on the needs of our residents."

David Sprowl, Executive Director, Lutheran Towers

TechBridge News

Your support enables TechBridge to deliver critical technology services and solutions to Georgia's nonprofits at affordable rates.  In 2007 TechBridge provided services to over 200 nonprofits.

Gateway Center Plugged In
Since opening in July 2005, the Gateway Center in downtown Atlanta has served more than 15,000 homeless people, thanks in part to an extensive information technology system developed by TechBridge, an Atlanta nonprofit organization that delivers IT services to fellow nonprofits. Vince Smith, Executive Director of the homeless shelter, said the IT system has been key in keeping Gateway in close touch with the many other local agencies that also serve the homeless.

In addition, the system helps the 50-employee complex manage client information, track outcomes and generate the documentation needed to procure grants, such as for the facility's primary-care medical clinic and a new recuperative center.

"
To my mind, TechBridge is the best thing that's ever happened to technology in the nonprofit arena in Atlanta," Smith said. "For every dollar we've put into technology, TechBridge has provided about $3 worth of services. Our technology has helped us maximize our resources and minimize duplication with other agencies."

TechBridge Supporters Complete Technology Habitat House

For the fourth year TechBridge coordinated volunteers from the IT groups of fifteen corporate sponsors to construct a new home for a deserving Atlanta family.  The sponsors pooled resources to raise $75,000+ to build the Technology Community Habitat House and combined employees to fill each of the seven build days.  Sponsors included: AGL Resources, Alliance Data Systems, CCCi, ChoicePoint, Inc., The Coca-Cola Company, Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta, GE Infrastructure, Intellinet, Microsoft, Pyramid Consulting, Sapient, Satyam, Southern Company, Synergis, and Tata Consultancy Services.

Keeping with the technology theme, the Technology Community Habitat for Humanity House was even outfitted with a family computer donated by Hewlett Packard, and a computer desk and printer donated by the house sponsors. TechBridge salutes the sponsors for their generosity and commitment to our community.
