The Well Project Recognized by Computerworld and TechBridge for Innovative Use of Technology Infrastructure |
The Well Project (www.thewellproject.org) has been named a laureate of International Data Group's national Computerworld Honors Program and a finalist of the Atlanta TechBridge awards. These esteemed honors recognize the non-profit's Web portal, which offers vital medical information and life management tips in English and Spanish for women living with HIV and AIDS.
The Computerworld Honors has awarded The Well Project the distinction of laureate for its multi-lingual Web portal as a tool to benefit HIV-positive women and their caregivers. Annually, the program's Chairmen's Committee, a group of 100 Chairmen/CEOs of global technology companies, nominates individuals and organizations around the world whose visionary applications of information technology promotes positive social and economic progress. Each nominee submits a case study, which becomes available to researchers, students and scholars through the Computerworld Honors Web site (www.cwhonors.org), and through digital records housed in national archives in more than 100 universities, museums and research institutions throughout the world.
TechBridge, an Atlanta organization that aims to help non-profits leverage technology to better serve the community, named The Well Project a finalist for its Technology Innovation Award. The award, which boasted 28 nominees, honors non-profits that use technology to impact their mission. As a finalist, The Well Project received $5,000 in TechBridge services, $10,000 in Microsoft software, a $1,000 cash grant and a one-year TechBridge membership. Money and services from the award will help The Well Project to more rapidly expand the translation of its Web portal and specific information into other languages, including French, Tamil, Hindi, Mandarin and Russian, to broaden its access for millions of HIV-positive women around the world. The Web portal provides local support resources, information on HIV testing and life management tips on topics for women who have just been diagnosed and don't know where to begin; or who want to date and don't know how to have the conversation; or who want to have children but do not completely understand the risks; and much more.

"There is an urgent need for information access, treatment research and community support for HIV-positive women, their families and caregivers. We appreciate the opportunity to expand our services and better provide for our constituents."
